Mike D'Antoni is ready to reinstall Chris Duhon as the Knicks starting point guard, and also wants to make him a quasi-assistant coach as he seeks more input from the players.

The Post has learned Duhon and D'Antoni held an important meeting in their Cleveland hotel Saturday afternoon as the desperate Knicks coach picked his captain's brain on the Knicks' troubles for 30 minutes.

"It was typical coach-talking-to-his-captain type talk, trying to see what we could do to get this team back to where we were," Duhon told The Post. "What I see we could do differently, what he and I need to do better. There was a lot of brain-storming trying to find solutions."

Really? Really? Now Duhon is a quasi-assistant.

I don't see how this could be that bad, really. I mean who else has stepped up to try and be a leader. Maybe Coach is trying to instill some sort of confidence in DuDu, by 'granting' him this position - we need something out of him while we try to find a better solution at PG. I'm all for this, but don't think anything will come of it honestly, in the form of wins for us... so whatever.

It's either Duhon or Nate, really. D'Antoni doesn't trust Douglass to run the point yet and he probably shoudn't. Douglass may have even worse playmaking skills than Nate at this point.
Choosing between Nate & Duhon is like choosing to be executed by a bullet or an electric chair. Yes, it will probably hurt a little less if they put a bullet in your temple, but at the end of the day you're fuched either way.
Nate was great his 1st game starting and then he was far from being spectacular despite his scoring outburst vs. the Cavs. His job is to set up his teammates and he has shown he can do it if he really wants to, but someone needs to constantly stay on his arse reminding him what's he's in there for.
Duhon is just like your first love. You remember her being beautiful but 20 years and 3 kids later she turned into an ugly whale and yet you're still drawn to her because you remember her being amazing. Duhon had a good 1st portion of his Knicks career and Mike D probably cannot get that out of his head thinking that his year long struggles are nothing more than admiration while the reality may be that that short span of games was the real admiration.
D'Antoni will probably change his mind more than once before the season ends going back and forth between Nate & Duhon and peppering some Douglas in out of frustration, but I'm almost positive he's counting days before this season is over.

D'Antoni's correct in thinking Nate is much better at the 2, and I think he's trying to go back to that 5-1 stretch we had with Duhon starting and Hughes backing up at PG (then again Nate was on the bench during that time). But Hughes plays well when asked to be a playmaker.

The main problem is the lack of energy when starting games; I'd say start Duhon and Nate but that kills us against many backcourts. We really just need to make a trade, or maybe start Harrington instead of Chandler or Gallo (that worked well at times last season).

You could of course argue "start Hughes at PG" but I think he's getting traded and you don't want to depend on a guy who'll be gone in two weeks.

I think D'Antoni is a good coach but this lineup crap is crazy.

You go 50 games with Chris Duhon as your point guard and get 50 terrible games from him, so you switch to Nate Robinson. Granted he isn't a point guard in the nba but neither is Chris Duhon, seriously he is playing 3rd string quality.

Ok so you switched. 1 Game it went ok, next game you play the best team in the nba with the best player just going off in the first half. And based on that, you go back to Chris Duhon. Brilliant!

The 9 assists from Duhon automatically secures his spot in the starting lineup for a while (In D'Antoni's mind).

Duhon is awful. I know we don't have a great team, but if we had even an average starting point, we'd be somewhere around .500. He's that bad.

It's all on Donnie. We just do not have a PG worth talking about.

//And I doubt TMac would help much. He'd probably get injured in two games
or less given how D'Antoni needs to ride his playmaker non-stop to get the
team to perform. Nash isn't just great but durable as well.
